Chapada dos Guimarães is one of Brazil's most extraordinary landscapes — a plateau of ancient sandstone formations, dramatic canyons, and cerrado savanna sitting roughly 800 meters above the Mato Grosso lowlands. The region draws visitors from across the country for its waterfalls, national park, and striking geological character, and the town itself carries a reputation as something of a spiritual and cultural destination in the Brazilian interior. Playing golf here puts you in genuinely rare company — this is not resort-corridor golf.
Malai Golf brings an 18-hole, par-72 layout to a setting most golfers will never encounter anywhere else. Without knowing the specific design pedigree, what the course offers almost certainly comes down to that landscape itself — the views, the elevation changes, the native cerrado vegetation with its twisted trees and open skies, and the quality of light that the plateau is known for. That environment is the course's primary asset.
The cerrado climate is warm and seasonal, with a pronounced wet season running roughly October through March. Plan accordingly — the dry season brings cooler, clearer conditions ideal for walking the round comfortably, and the surrounding national park makes any visit feel like considerably more than a golf trip.
