Few settings in Pacific Northwest golf match the backdrop Sisters delivers — the Three Sisters volcanoes rising to the west, ponderosa pines framing nearly every hole, and the high-desert air that gives the ball a little extra carry at roughly 3,200 feet of elevation. Aspen Lakes is a full-length, par-72 layout that earns its reputation as one of central Oregon's most scenic rounds, drawing golfers who make the drive from Bend or Eugene as much for the landscape as for the challenge.
The course sits in a region that has quietly built a serious golf identity. Bend's concentration of destination tracks gets most of the attention, but Sisters — a small mountain town known for its Old West storefronts, fly-fishing, and arts culture — offers a more relaxed, unhurried version of high-desert golf. Aspen Lakes fits that character: open to the public, routed through terrain that mixes meadow and timber, with the Cascade Range serving as a permanent, impossible-to-ignore backdrop.
Come prepared for afternoon winds that roll down from the mountains and can transform a comfortable front nine into a stern examination on the back.
