Santa María Golf & Country Club stands as Panama City's most prestigious private golfing address, a Ted Robinson Jr. design that opened in 2014 as the centerpiece of the upscale Santa María master-planned community in the capital's eastern corridor. Robinson shaped the layout around the natural wetlands and tropical vegetation of the site, producing a course where water comes into play on the majority of holes — a signature of his father's legacy carried forward with modern sensibility. The conditioning is maintained to a standard that has few rivals in Central America.
Panama City itself provides an extraordinary backdrop: a skyline of glass towers visible from several holes, the humid tropical climate keeping the course lush and green year-round. The rainy season, roughly May through November, brings afternoon downpours that rarely deter members for long.
Membership here is deeply tied to the broader Santa María residential community, attracting Panama's business elite and a substantial international contingent. The club anchors a lifestyle development rather than functioning as a standalone golf destination, giving it the intimate, well-resourced feel of a modern American country club transplanted to equatorial Central America.
