Few public courses on the South Shore of Massachusetts carry as much personality as Widows Walk. Opened in 1997 and designed by Brian Silva, the course was built on former cranberry bog land and immediately earned a reputation as one of the better public-access layouts in New England — Golf Digest ranked it among the top courses you can play in Massachusetts not long after it opened. Silva worked thoughtfully with the rolling, wetland-edged terrain to create a course that feels genuinely rooted in its coastal surroundings.
Scituate is a tight-knit maritime community on the Atlantic shore, south of Boston, and that setting matters here. The course name itself nods to local seafaring history — widows' walks were the rooftop platforms where wives watched the horizon for their husbands' ships — and that sense of place carries through the layout. Expect firm, fast conditions when the wind off the water picks up, which it frequently does.
For South Shore residents and Boston-area golfers looking for a quality public round without a private club price tag, Widows Walk has been a reliable anchor of the regional golf scene for nearly 3 decades.
