Glencorse

Few courses in Scotland wear their age as honestly as Glencorse, which traces its origins to the 19th century and sits in the valley of the North Esk river on the northern edge of the Pentland Hills, just south of Edinburgh. The setting is as classically Scottish as it gets — a tight, wooded parkland layout where the land dictates every decision and the hills form a constant backdrop.

With a par of 64, Glencorse is built around short holes, and the course leans into that identity rather than apologizing for it. Precision off the tee matters more than power, and the tree-lined corridors and natural contours demand honest, considered golf. Penicuik sits about 10 miles south of Edinburgh, making Glencorse an easy escape from the city without feeling suburban. The Pentlands lend the whole round a moorland atmosphere, and on a clear day the views across the hills are reward enough on their own.
