Mayacoo Lakes Country Club carries a quiet prestige in the Palm Beach golf world that its understated name barely hints at. The club was designed by Joe Lee, one of Florida's most prolific architects, and opened in the early 1970s as a private residential community course — part of the wave of planned golf communities that defined South Florida's postwar expansion. Lee's work here is characteristic of his style: strategic water hazards built around the area's natural wetland topography, generous fairways that reward positioning over raw power, and a layout that demands patience and smart course management round after round.
The West Palm Beach setting places Mayacoo in the heart of one of the densest concentrations of private golf in the United States. Palm Beach County alone hosts dozens of clubs ranging from the ultra-exclusive to the architecturally storied, and Mayacoo holds its own as a respected members' retreat in that competitive company.
The lakes that give the club its name are very much in play throughout the round, making water a recurring strategic element rather than a mere backdrop. The par-71 layout rewards players who think a shot ahead.
