Few places in England carry quite the layered history of Epsom. The Surrey town is synonymous with horse racing — the Downs have hosted the Derby since 1780 — and the golf course shares that same open, rolling downland that defines this corner of the North Downs. Playing here means moving through a landscape that feels genuinely, unhurriedly English: chalk grassland, wide skies, and turf that sits firm and fast through the summer months.
Epsom Golf Club is one of Surrey's longer-established clubs, sitting within a county that arguably contains the greatest concentration of quality golf anywhere in Britain. The heathland and downland courses of Surrey set a high bar, and Epsom occupies a distinct niche as a downland layout rather than the heather-and-pine style more commonly associated with the region.
