Tijeras Arroyo is a military golf course situated on Kirtland Air Force Base at the southern edge of Albuquerque, New Mexico — one of the largest Air Force installations in the country. The course takes its name from Tijeras Arroyo, the natural drainage channel that cuts through this part of the base, and that desert wash is central to the course's character. Playing here means navigating a high-desert landscape where the sandy arroyo comes into play and the backdrop shifts between the Sandia Mountains to the north and the sprawling flight line of one of New Mexico's busiest military air installations.
Albuquerque sits at roughly 5,300 feet elevation, which means shots carry farther than golfers accustomed to sea level expect — a genuine benefit on a par-72 layout that asks for precision in a dry, wind-prone environment. The desert rough is unforgiving, and wayward shots into native terrain test course management as much as ball-striking.
Access is restricted to active-duty military, retirees, DoD civilians, and their guests, giving the course a close-knit members' atmosphere that reflects the tight community culture common to base facilities nationwide.
