Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod — settled in 1637 — and that sense of deep New England roots carries over into the character of the golf here. The town sits at the gateway to the Cape, where the mainland gives way to the sandy, pine-studded terrain that defines this stretch of southeastern Massachusetts. Sandwich Hollows Country Club takes its name from the glacially carved hollows that shape the local landscape, and that topography — gentle rolls, natural undulation, open sky — gives the course a distinctly Cape Cod personality that no amount of architectural ambition could manufacture.
As a municipal facility serving Sandwich and its visitors, this is everyday golf in the best sense: accessible, honest, and rooted in the community rather than built to impress. The layout plays to a par 71, and while the card may not scream difficulty, Cape Cod's persistent winds have a way of making any number more interesting than it looks at the tee.
For traveling golfers, Sandwich Hollows offers a reasonable and low-pressure entry point to Cape Cod golf before heading toward the more celebrated layouts farther down the peninsula — but it earns its own place as a genuine expression of where it sits.
