Eganville sits in the heart of Renfrew County, a stretch of eastern Ontario where the Canadian Shield gives way to river valleys and hardwood forest — the kind of landscape that makes autumn golf almost unreasonably beautiful. Whitetail Golf Club takes its name from the deer that are a genuine part of daily life in this part of the province, and the surrounding woodlands make their presence felt throughout the round. This is cottage-country golf in the best sense: unhurried, scenic, and rooted in a community that treats the game as part of the seasonal rhythm of life along the Bonnechere River corridor.
Renfrew County doesn't have a dense concentration of courses, which means Whitetail functions as a genuine local hub rather than one option among many. That position tends to shape a club's character — courses in smaller communities often develop a warmth and accessibility that busier resort layouts can't quite replicate.
At par 72, the course offers a complete test across 18 holes without leaning on gimmicks to create difficulty. For golfers making the drive from Ottawa, roughly an hour and a half to the east, Whitetail is a legitimate reason to head into the valley.
