Michigan City sits at the northwestern corner of Indiana, pressed against the southern shore of Lake Michigan in a stretch of the Midwest that has quietly produced some genuinely distinguished golf. The Duneland region — named for the dramatic sand dunes that define this coastline — has a natural affinity for the game, and the lakeside climate keeps the seasons distinct and the turf conditions honest.
Pottawattomie Country Club carries the kind of name that signals deep roots in a community. Private clubs bearing Indigenous place names and the "Country Club" designation in small Midwestern cities tend to trace their origins to the early decades of the 20th century, when golf was becoming a genuine social institution rather than a novelty, and Michigan City's prosperous merchant and professional class would have been exactly the constituency to build one.
As a members-only club, Pottawattomie exists primarily to serve its membership year after year rather than to chase rankings or outside attention — the sort of place where institutional loyalty and a well-worn sense of belonging matter as much as the course itself.
