Arabian Ranches Golf Club

Few courses in the world sit quite so deliberately at the frontier between city and desert as Arabian Ranches. Opened in 2004 and designed by Ian Baker-Finch in collaboration with Nicklaus Design, the course was conceived as the centrepiece of Emaar's landmark residential community on the southern edge of Dubai — a deliberate oasis of fairways carved from the raw scrubland of the emirate's interior, with the Hajar Mountains visible on clear winter days.

The design leans on a links-influenced sensibility — wide, generous fairways, subtle undulation, and a premium on ground game — but the setting is unmistakably Arabian. Native ghaf trees line several corridors, and the sandy waste areas that frame the layout are as much a product of the landscape as they are a design choice. The par-5 finishing hole, playing back toward the clubhouse, gives the round a suitably dramatic close.

Arabian Ranches occupies a particular place in Dubai's golf culture: less flashy than the Emirates or Jumeirah properties, it has always appealed to residents and club members who value a quiet, well-maintained course over spectacle — a proper members' club experience in a city that rarely does anything quietly.
