Saint-Endréol

Saint-Endréol occupies a dramatic stretch of the Provençal backcountry near La Motte, a village in the Var département where the coastal crowds of the Côte d'Azur give way to quieter limestone hills, cork oaks, and vineyards. Designed by Michel Gayon and opened in 1992, the course was built across a rugged valley landscape that the architect largely left alone — the routing follows natural ravines and rocky outcrops rather than imposing artificial shaping, giving the layout an authentic, almost wild character uncommon in resort golf.

The course built a strong European reputation through the 1990s and 2000s and has consistently ranked among the top layouts in France. It plays across genuinely uneven terrain, with several holes demanding carries over scrubland gullies and precise positioning to open up approach angles. The views across the Maures massif are a constant presence, and the light — that particular golden, resinous quality of inland Provence — makes an afternoon round feel like something beyond ordinary sport.

A spa hotel sits on the property, attracting a destination clientele, but the course itself has enough grip and authenticity to reward serious golfers rather than just scenic tourists.
