Chewelah sits in the Colville Valley of northeastern Washington, a region of ponderosa pine forests, working farms, and the kind of unhurried small-town life that has mostly vanished from the Pacific Northwest's more congested corners. The area gets genuine four seasons — snow in winter, warm dry summers — and the valley floor's open terrain shapes what golf here looks and feels like. This is not resort country; it's a community course that serves local players and the occasional visitor making their way through Stevens County.
Without detailed records on hand, it would be a disservice to invent architectural credits or signature holes for the Old Course. What the name itself does suggest is longevity — a course that earned the prefix "Old" presumably because something newer came along, or because it simply predates most everything else in the area and the name stuck as a matter of respect.
For travelers, Chewelah is a legitimate off-the-beaten-path stop — close to 49 Degrees North ski area and within reach of the broader Spokane golf market, roughly 60 miles to the south.
