Thracian Cliffs Golf And Beach Resort

Few golf experiences on the continent match the sheer drama of Thracian Cliffs. Designed by Gary Player and opened in 2011, the course was carved into the limestone clifftops of Bulgaria's northern Black Sea coast, and from the very first hole the landscape announces itself with force. Several holes play directly along the cliff edge, with the sea dropping away hundreds of feet below — most memorably the par-3 3rd, which demands a carry over a natural rocky inlet to a green perched on the headland. It earned a place among Europe's top 100 courses almost immediately after opening, a remarkable achievement for a layout in a country with virtually no prior golfing tradition.

The village of Balchik and the wider Dobrich region sit within Bulgaria's Black Sea Riviera, a stretch of coastline that draws summer visitors for its warm, dry climate and dramatic geology. The area is notably less commercialized than the southern resorts, which adds to the sense of discovery.
