Few golf settings on Oahu rival the drama of Kaneohe Bay visible from the Klipper's fairways. This military course, operated by Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay, sits on the windward side of the island — a world apart from the sunbaked resort strips of Waikiki and Ko Olina. The Ko'olau Mountains rise sharply to the west, trade winds move through with real purpose, and the air carries the particular humidity of a rainforest coast. It's a place that reminds you Hawaii is not 1 climate but many.
Access is restricted to active-duty military, reservists, retirees, and their guests, giving the Klipper a genuine members' club atmosphere rather than a tourist-circuit feel. That exclusivity has preserved something relatively rare on Oahu — a course where regulars know the wind patterns hole by hole, and where the experience belongs to the people who've earned it.
The windward side's rainfall keeps the turf lush and green year-round, but it also means conditions shift quickly. Playing the Klipper is as much about reading the weather rolling off the mountains as it is about reading the greens.
