Charleston sits in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, one of the flattest, most fertile stretches of land in North America. The Delta's landscape is defined by cotton fields, oxbow lakes, and the slow-moving rivers that give the region its name — and Tallahatchie Country Club takes its name from the river that winds through this part of the state, made famous well beyond Mississippi by Bobbie Gentry's 1967 ballad "Ode to Billie Joe."
