Golfclub Ookmeer

Amsterdam's only 18-hole course within the city limits, Ookmeer occupies a stretch of reclaimed polder land in the Osdorp district on the western edge of the city. The club was founded in 1967 and takes its name from the Ookmeer, the long narrow lake that borders the property and comes into play on several holes. Like much of the Netherlands, the terrain is essentially flat, and the design makes the most of the available water features, with canals, ditches, and the lake itself serving as the primary hazards rather than elevation change. Wind off the open polder is a constant factor and can transform a manageable parkland layout into something far more demanding.

The surrounding Westelijk Havengebied and Nieuwe Meer area gives the course a quietly urban character — you're never far from the city, and the Amsterdam skyline occasionally reminds you of it. For a metropolitan course, the setting manages a surprising amount of greenery and calm.

Ookmeer functions primarily as a private members' club, though it has historically offered guest access. For visiting golfers, it represents the rare chance to play genuine Dutch polder golf without leaving one of Europe's great cities.
