Damanjodi is a planned industrial township carved out of the forested hills of Odisha's Koraput district — built from scratch in the 1980s to house workers and families of NALCO, the National Aluminium Company. The golf course here is very much a product of that same vision: a self-contained amenity for a self-contained community, maintained by the company and used almost exclusively by NALCO employees, their families, and guests. The setting itself is the course's strongest suit. Koraput district sits at elevation in the Eastern Ghats, and Damanjodi's surroundings are genuinely lush — dense sal and mixed forest, red laterite soil, and the kind of clean air and green hills that would cost a premium anywhere this landscape were better known to the outside golfing world.
