Few Swedish golf clubs carry as much history as Gävle GK, which traces its roots back to 1902, making it one of the oldest clubs in the country. The course sits in the Gävle region along Sweden's High Coast corridor, where the boreal landscape — pine forests, granite outcrops, and the proximity to the Gulf of Bothnia — gives the setting a distinctly northern character that separates it from the more manicured parkland layouts farther south. This is golf shaped by the Swedish interior, unhurried and rooted in tradition.
The club has operated across different sites during its long history, and the current layout reflects decades of refinement within a natural woodland environment. Tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the routing uses the rolling terrain to create variety and elevation changes that keep the round interesting from start to finish.
Gävle itself is a city with real personality — Sweden's 10th largest, with a well-preserved old town, strong maritime history, and a local golf culture that punches above its weight for a region this far north. Playing here feels less like a tourist tick and more like stepping into the everyday fabric of Swedish club golf.
