Few settings in American golf are as theatrically Western as this one. The Fairmont Hot Springs Resort sits in the Warm Springs valley between the Flint Creek and Pintler mountain ranges in southwestern Montana, where the sky runs wide and the air carries that particular high-country clarity that makes every shot feel more consequential than it probably is. The resort has been a regional institution for decades, drawing visitors from across the Mountain West as much for its famous natural hot springs pools as for the golf itself.
The course plays through open ranchland terrain with the Rockies framing nearly every hole, giving the layout an expansive, unhurried quality typical of resort golf in this part of the country. Fairways tend to be generous enough to welcome the recreational player, while the mountain backdrop and variable afternoon winds ensure that scoring isn't simply a formality.
Anaconda itself is a compelling piece of Montana history — a company town built around the Anaconda Copper smelter, with architecture and civic bones that punch well above its modest size. The combination of genuine Western heritage and the resort's amenities makes this a more layered destination than the scorecard alone would suggest.
