Few courses in the Syracuse area wear their geology as openly as Drumlins. The facility sits on the drumlin fields that define so much of central New York's landscape — those elongated, glacier-sculpted hills left behind by the last ice age — and the East course makes full use of that rolling, rumpled terrain. Fairways climb and fall in ways that feel entirely natural rather than engineered, and the site gives the layout a sense of organic rhythm that flatter ground simply can't replicate.
De Witt itself is a close-in suburb on Syracuse's eastern edge, which makes Drumlins a genuinely accessible public facility for a metro area that takes its golf seriously despite a season compressed by lake-effect winters and muddy springs. When the weather cooperates, the Finger Lakes region and the broader Upstate corridor offer some of the more underrated public golf in the Northeast.
The East course's par of 71 hints at a layout that asks for precision over raw power — a sensible fit for terrain that already provides plenty of challenge through elevation and angle, before difficulty is manufactured by length alone.
