Galston sits in the Irvine Valley in East Ayrshire, a part of Scotland where the game has been played on common ground for centuries. This is working-class golfing country in the truest sense — communities that built their own clubs, maintained their own courses, and played their own game long before golf became a global leisure industry. Loudoun Gowf Club is very much in that tradition, and the archaic spelling of "Gowf" is a deliberate nod to the old Scots word for the game itself, signalling that this is a place with a sense of its own roots.
