Sun Willows has been a fixture of Pasco's public golf scene for decades, sitting along the Columbia River in Washington's Tri-Cities area — one of the Pacific Northwest's most distinctive golfing environments. Where much of the region means rain and fir trees, the Tri-Cities sits in the high desert of the Columbia Basin, where 300 days of sunshine and a semi-arid landscape give the game here a feel closer to eastern Oregon or even the high desert Southwest than to Seattle. The willows in the name aren't just branding — the course traces the low river corridor where riparian vegetation softens an otherwise spare, open terrain.
As a municipal course serving Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland, Sun Willows fills an important role: it's where the area's everyday golfers log their rounds, where juniors get their start, and where the community's golf culture actually lives. That kind of course tends to reward local knowledge — reading wind off the river, understanding how the dry summer heat firms the turf.
The Tri-Cities region is increasingly on the radar for Pacific Northwest golf tourism, partly because its reliable sunshine extends the playable season well beyond what western Washington courses can offer. Sun Willows is a natural stop for anyone moving through the Columbia Basin.
