Prescott sits at roughly a mile above sea level in Arizona's central highlands, where the air is thinner, the pines are ponderosa, and summer temperatures stay a good 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix. That elevation does real things to a golf ball — expect noticeably more carry than you're used to at sea level — and it gives Antelope Hills a mountain-desert character that feels a world apart from the resort corridors of Scottsdale. The course is a public facility operated by the City of Prescott, part of a two-course complex that has long served as the anchor of golf in the Prescott area.
The layout plays to a par 71, which typically signals at least one fewer par 5 than a standard par 72 and can tighten the scoring calculus in interesting ways — the course earns its par rather than gives it away.
Prescott itself is one of Arizona's most livable mountain towns, with a genuine historic downtown and a loyal local golf culture. Antelope Hills functions as a true community course: accessible, well-used, and carrying the kind of unpretentious character that daily-fee public golf does best.
