Hermitage Golf Club

Few clubs in the Dublin area carry the weight of history that Hermitage does. Founded in 1905, it ranks among the oldest golf clubs in Leinster, occupying a stretch of the Liffey Valley that gives the course its most defining characteristic — the river comes into play on several holes, demanding accuracy off the tee and adding genuine consequence to wayward shots. The layout has an intimate, mature feel, with tree-lined fairways that have grown with the club over more than a century.

Lucan sits on Dublin's western fringe, close enough to the city to attract a serious golfing membership but removed enough that the grounds feel genuinely pastoral. The Liffey corridor brings its own microclimate — soft underfoot conditions for much of the year, with the kind of lush Irish rough that punishes anything but controlled ball-striking.

Hermitage is a traditional members' club with a strong competitive culture, having produced notable Irish amateur talent over the decades. It plays shorter than many parkland layouts of its era, but the river, the trees, and the tight corridors make par feel like a genuine reward.
