Chingola sits in Zambia's Copperbelt Province, a region defined by the massive open-pit copper mines that shaped its towns, its economy, and even its social life. Nchanga Golf Club takes its name directly from the Nchanga Copper Mine — one of the largest in Africa — and like so many clubs across the former British-influenced mining belt, it grew out of the need to give expatriate engineers and local workers alike a place to unwind after brutal shifts underground. That colonial and industrial heritage gives the club a character you don't find at resort courses: it exists because people here needed it.
The Copperbelt sits on a high plateau at roughly 1,300 metres above sea level, which means the air is thinner and the ball flies noticeably farther than players are used to — a pleasant surprise for visiting golfers. The region is lush during the rainy season and drier and dusty by mid-year, and the course's conditions shift meaningfully between those extremes.
For golfers traveling through Zambia, the Copperbelt's club scene — Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola — represents an authentic, working-town golf culture rather than a tourist product, and Nchanga is a genuine part of that fabric.
