Oake Manor sits in the Vale of Taunton Deane, one of Somerset's most quietly beautiful stretches of countryside, where the Quantock and Blackdown Hills frame the horizon and the landscape rolls in soft, pastoral waves. The course occupies former farmland a few miles west of Taunton, and that agricultural character — mature hedgerows, natural undulations, a genuine sense of open English countryside — gives it a personality distinct from manufactured parkland layouts.
As a members' club open to visitors, Oake Manor occupies a comfortable middle ground in the Somerset golf scene: accessible enough for a casual day out, but with enough variety and challenge to reward a proper game. Par 70 suggests the routing leans on shorter, more strategic holes rather than brute length, which tends to produce rounds where course management and shot-making matter more than power.
Taunton itself is a compact county town with a strong sporting culture — it's better known for cricket than golf — but the surrounding countryside makes for compelling context. Players finishing a round here are rarely in a hurry to leave.
