Few golf settings on the California coast carry the atmospheric weight of Bodega Bay. This small fishing village on the Sonoma Coast sits roughly an hour north of San Francisco, where the Pacific rolls in cold and gray, the harbor seals haul out on nearby rocks, and the coastal scrub bends permanently inland from the prevailing wind. It's the same stretch of shoreline that Alfred Hitchcock chose for The Birds — and on a moody morning, with the fog sitting low over the water, you understand exactly why he picked it.
The Links at Bodega Harbour was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1977, laid out across the bluffs and barrancas above the harbor in a style that draws obvious inspiration from Scotland. The routing climbs, drops, and turns into the wind with genuine links character — firm turf, exposed lies, and shot values that shift entirely depending on which direction the ocean breeze is blowing.
A par 70 signals that length isn't the challenge here. The course demands creativity and course management over raw power, and the views across Bodega Bay toward the open Pacific are a constant, welcome distraction.
