North Bay Golf and Country Club is one of the older established clubs in northeastern Ontario, a region where the golf season arrives late and leaves early but tends to inspire a particular loyalty among those who play through it. The club sits in a part of Ontario shaped by the Canadian Shield — exposed rock, boreal forest, and the kind of terrain that resists flat, manicured fairways and rewards courses with genuine topographic character.
The "Old" designation suggests this layout predates a newer or redesigned track at the same club, giving it the feel of a course that accumulated its identity over decades rather than being conceived all at once. These older layouts often carry small imperfections that regulars come to treasure — an eccentric routing, a green that doesn't quite sit where a modern architect would put it, a hole that makes no sense until you've played it a hundred times.
North Bay itself is a mid-sized city on the shores of Lake Nipissing, known more for its wilderness access than its golf, which tends to make the club a genuine community anchor for the players who depend on it.
