Pocono Manor sits in the Pocatono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania, a resort destination that has drawn visitors to its elevated plateau since the early 20th century. The property carries the kind of unhurried, old-resort character that's increasingly rare — grand in scale, rooted in an era when a weekend escape meant genuinely leaving the world behind. Golf has been part of that tradition here for well over a century, and the East Course is the larger of 2 layouts on the grounds.
The Poconos themselves shape what golf here looks and feels like: dense hardwood forest, rolling terrain carved by glacial activity, and a climate that runs cooler than much of Pennsylvania even in summer. Rounds tend to play through canopied corridors of oak and maple, with the kind of seasonal color in autumn that makes northeastern golf feel worth every difficult lie.
As a resort course, the East Course serves a broad range of guests rather than a single membership, which generally means an emphasis on enjoyment over examination — though mountain terrain rarely lets anyone entirely off the hook.
