Sheffield sits at the foot of Mount Roland in Tasmania's northwest, a region of dairy farms, market gardens, and the famous outdoor murals that have made this small town a destination in its own right. The golf club here is very much part of that community fabric — a genuine country course where locals play alongside visitors passing through on the road between Devonport and Cradle Mountain. The landscape is quintessentially Tasmanian: green and cool, with the dramatic silhouette of Roland as a near-constant backdrop.
A par 68 tells you something important before you even arrive: this is a shorter, tighter layout where placement and local knowledge matter more than raw distance. That kind of course rewards creative shotmaking and punishes complacency, often more than a longer card would suggest.
Northwest Tasmania doesn't get the golfing attention of Barnbougle or the Coal River Valley, but that's precisely the point. Sheffield Golf Club offers an unpretentious round in genuinely beautiful country, the sort of game that stays with you not because of drama but because of ease and authenticity.
