Kings Beach sits on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, where the Sierra Nevada meets one of the most celebrated bodies of water in the American West. Golf at this elevation — roughly 6,200 feet above sea level — plays differently than anywhere at sea level: the thin air adds genuine distance to every shot, the afternoon light turns the surrounding pines a deep gold, and the temperature can swing dramatically between a warm morning tee time and a cool mountain finish.
Old Brockway GC is one of the oldest golf courses at Lake Tahoe, with a history stretching back to the early resort era of the north shore. The Brockway name is tied to the grand hotel and entertainment culture that made this stretch of lakeshore a destination in the mid-20th century, and the course carries that vintage character — a layout that feels rooted in the landscape rather than imposed upon it.
For a region better known for ski resorts and casino hotels, the north shore's golf scene offers a genuinely unhurried alternative, and a round here pairs well with everything the area does best: clear mountain air, towering conifers, and the kind of scenery that makes it hard to care too much about your score.
