Few golf courses in America occupy a setting as remote and dramatic as this one. Fishers Island sits in Long Island Sound closer to Connecticut than to the rest of New York, and reaching it requires a ferry — a journey that has always kept the club exclusive and its course largely unknown to the wider golfing world. That combination of inaccessibility and exceptional quality is precisely what gives Fishers Island its near-mythic status among those who have played it.
The course was designed by Seth Raynor and opened in 1926, making it one of his masterworks. Raynor, a protégé of Charles Blair Macdonald, was a master of the "template hole" tradition — adapting classic designs from the great courses of Britain — and here he had a landform worthy of his ambitions. The terrain tumbles along the eastern tip of the island with views of the sound on multiple sides, creating a windswept, links-adjacent experience that is genuinely unlike anything else on the American East Coast.
Consistently ranked among the top 15 to 20 courses in the United States, Fishers Island remains one of the most coveted and hardest to access rounds in the country. Its par of 70 suits a routing that prizes strategy and creativity over length, and the ocean wind ensures no 2 visits play the same.
