Lake Erie Metropark Golf Course sits within the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system, a network of public green spaces that has served the greater Detroit metro area for decades. The course occupies the Lake Erie Metropark, a sprawling preserve along the western shore of Lake Erie near the mouth of the Huron River — one of the few stretches of genuine lakefront open space in the region. Brownstown Township is in the southern reaches of Wayne County, where the land flattens toward the lake and the horizon opens up in a way that feels distinct from the city to the north.
As a Metroparks facility, this is a course built for access — affordable, walkable, and oriented toward everyday public play rather than exclusivity. That context shapes the experience: these layouts tend to be well-maintained for their price point and busy on weekends, drawing a broad cross-section of Detroit-area golfers.
The Lake Erie shoreline setting is the real draw. Southeast Michigan doesn't offer dramatic elevation changes, but the proximity to open water brings its own character — lake breezes, big skies, and the kind of flat, open terrain that rewards straight ball-striking and course management over power.
