Few golf courses in South America carry the institutional weight of Club Militar de Golf, which traces its origins to Colombia's military establishment and has long served as one of Bogotá's most exclusive and storied private clubs. Like the handful of elite golf institutions in the capital, it operates within a tradition of membership rooted in service and rank — a setting that lends the place a particular formality and pride of place.
Bogotá sits on a high Andean savanna at roughly 2,600 meters above sea level, and that altitude fundamentally changes the game. The thin air means the ball travels noticeably farther than at sea level — expect significant adjustments to club selection — while the cool, often overcast conditions and the surrounding mountain landscape create a playing environment unlike almost anywhere else in the world.
As a private military club, access is understandably restricted, but for those who do find their way onto the course, the combination of high-altitude Andean golf, the club's distinguished heritage, and Bogotá's dramatic mountain backdrop makes for a round that is genuinely hard to replicate elsewhere on the continent.
