Usma is a small lakeside village in Latvia's Courland region, set beside Usmas ezers — one of the largest and most scenic lakes in the western part of the country. The surrounding landscape is a quiet mix of pine forest, meadow, and water, characteristic of this sparsely populated corner of Latvia between Ventspils and Kuldīga. It's a part of the country where nature is the main attraction, and a golf course here would be shaped entirely by that rural, forested setting rather than by any urban golf infrastructure.
Latvian golf is still a developing scene relative to its Nordic and Central European neighbors, with the sport having grown steadily since independence in 1991. Courses in rural Latvia tend to embrace their natural surroundings closely, often routing through woodland and alongside water features that require little artificial enhancement. A club in this setting almost certainly draws its character from the lake, the pines, and the open Courland sky.
This is a destination for golfers who want quiet, unhurried play in genuine countryside — far from resort crowds, and very much on Latvia's own terms.
