Westwoud is a small agricultural village in the heart of the West Frisian polders, roughly midway between Hoorn and Enkhuizen in the Noord-Holland province. This is reclaimed land at its most elemental — flat, open, and exposed to the winds that sweep in off the IJsselmeer. Golf played here is Dutch golf in its purest form: you contend with the sky and the breeze as much as with the course itself, and the surrounding patchwork of dykes, farm fields, and distant church spires gives the whole experience a quietly distinctive character.
Golfbaan Westwoud is a compact, community-oriented club that serves the recreational golfer in this rural part of Noord-Holland. Layouts like this one tend to reward straight, low-trajectory shots over power — the kind of game the persistent Dutch wind eventually teaches you to play whether you intended to learn it or not.
The broader West Frisian golf scene is unhurried and genuinely welcoming, a contrast to the busier resort circuits further south. Playing here means stepping into everyday Dutch club life, where the 19th hole conversation and a cold Heineken matter as much as what happened on the back 9.
