Golf des 3 Vallons sits on the edge of the Isère department, in the broad, modern town of L'Isle-d'Abeau — a planned new city developed in the 1970s east of Lyon, roughly midway between that metropolis and Grenoble. The course occupies the gently rolling agricultural terrain typical of the northern Dauphiné, where the Rhône corridor begins to give way to the first suggestions of Alpine foothills. Winters here can be sharp and the light in late afternoon carries that particular clarity you get when high mountains are close but not yet dominant.
As a public, accessible layout serving this dense Lyon–Grenoble corridor, Golf des 3 Vallons plays a genuinely democratic role in the local golf scene — this is a part of France where serious mountain terrain isn't far away but courses on the valley floor offer year-round playability that the higher-altitude Alpine venues can't match.
The name itself — the 3 Valleys — gestures at the folded landscape of small river valleys that characterize the Isère plateau, and the routing follows that natural topography, giving the round variety and a sense of movement through the terrain rather than across a flat canvas.
