Scamander sits on Tasmania's northeast coast, a stretch of the island where the land tapers between the Tasmanian Sea and the forested slopes of the Douglas-Apsley ranges. The town itself is small and unhurried, built around the tidal estuary of the Scamander River — and the golf club takes its name, and much of its character, from that waterway. This is a corner of Australia that rewards those willing to seek it out: wild beaches, clear rivers, and a pace of life that feels genuinely removed from the mainland.
The course occupies terrain shaped by the river's edge and the coastal lowlands that surround it, meaning water and shifting coastal winds are likely to factor into any round. Northeast Tasmania experiences a relatively mild but unpredictable maritime climate, and conditions can change quickly — something any visitor should factor into club selection well before the back nine.
As a regional club in a lightly populated part of the state, Scamander carries the honest character of community golf — maintained and valued by locals, and offering visiting players an authentic experience that no resort layout can manufacture.
