Sorknes Golf sits along the Glomma river valley in Rena, a small inland community in Innlandet county — the vast, forested heart of Norway that stretches toward the Swedish border. This is Østerdalen, the long river valley carved by Norway's greatest waterway, and the landscape is defined by pine and birch forest, open farmland flats, and a continental climate that brings genuinely warm summers and hard winters. Golf here has a short but intense season, and courses in this region tend to make the most of natural terrain rather than engineered drama.
Rena itself is best known as a military garrison town, home to the Rena Camp and the Norwegian Army's training grounds. That gives the community a particular, grounded character — this is not a resort destination but a local course serving the valley's residents and the occasional traveler passing through on the E3 corridor or the Røros road.
Golf in Innlandet's river valleys typically rewards straightforward, countryside golf over theatre: wide views, natural turf conditions, and the particular pleasure of playing somewhere that feels genuinely far from the city.
