Hickory Ridge Golf & Country Club sits in Holley, a small village in Orleans County along the old Erie Canal corridor of western New York. This part of the state is quiet, agricultural country — apple orchards, flat lake plains, and the kind of open sky that makes distances feel deceptive. The region doesn't draw destination golfers the way the Finger Lakes or Buffalo's top private clubs do, but it sustains a loyal local golf culture built around community courses exactly like this one.
As a country club layout, Hickory Ridge carries the feel of a members' course — a place where regulars know every bounce and break, where the game is social as much as competitive, and where weekend tee sheets fill with the same familiar faces season after season.
Western New York's short golf season — roughly late April through October — gives the turf a well-rested quality, and the region's clay-heavy soils can make the course play firm and fast in dry summers or soft and demanding after the frequent spring rains roll in off Lake Ontario.
