Few golf clubs in South America carry the quiet prestige of Teresópolis Golf Club, one of Brazil's oldest and most storied layouts. Founded in the early 20th century, the club sits in the Serra dos Órgãos mountain range above Rio de Janeiro, where the elevation and cool air create playing conditions unlike anything else in Brazilian golf — a world away from the coastal heat of the city below. The terrain is rugged and dramatic, with holes cut through Atlantic Forest vegetation, and the mountains loom over virtually every shot.
The course demands creativity and course management over raw power. Uneven lies, elevation changes, and narrow corridors through lush subtropical growth punish wayward drives and reward players who think their way around rather than overpower it. The setting has a formal, old-world character befitting a club that has served Rio's elite for generations.
Teresópolis the city is a popular weekend escape from Rio — roughly 90 kilometers north — known for its cooler climate, hiking trails through the national park, and a relaxed mountain-town atmosphere that makes the golf club feel like a genuine retreat rather than a simple round of golf.
