Few courses carry their name quite so literally: Campo de Golf Santander was developed under the patronage of Banco Santander, the Spanish banking giant whose global headquarters campus sits in Boadilla del Monte. The course functions as a private amenity for the bank's employees and invited guests, making it one of the more unusual corporate golf facilities in Europe — a full championship layout maintained to a high standard precisely because the institution behind it has the resources to demand that.

Boadilla del Monte occupies the western fringe of the Madrid metropolitan area, on the elevated Castilian plateau where the air is dry and clear and the light has that particular sharpness characteristic of the meseta. The surrounding landscape is open and somewhat austere in the way of inland Spain — scrub oak, stone pine, and broom rather than the lush parkland you'd find in wetter climates — which gives the course a distinctly Iberian feel quite different from the resort golf of the coasts.
