Few courses in the Pacific Northwest carry the kind of institutional weight that Columbia Edgewater does. Founded in 1925 along the Columbia River in north Portland, the club has long been considered one of Oregon's premier private clubs and a genuine fixture in the region's golf history. The course was designed by H. Chandler Egan, the accomplished American amateur champion who also shaped Pebble Beach's layout before the 1929 U.S. Open, and that architectural pedigree shows in a design that rewards thoughtful, strategic play over raw power.
Columbia Edgewater has hosted significant competitive golf over the decades, most notably serving as a longtime stop on the LPGA Tour. The tree-lined layout sits on flat riverside terrain, but Egan's routing and his use of bunkering and green complexes create genuine variety and challenge hole to hole.
Portland's golf culture is serious and underappreciated nationally, shaped by mild, wet winters that keep courses green year-round and a player base that tends to value craft and tradition. Columbia Edgewater sits comfortably at the top of that scene.
