Sotra Golfklubb sits on the island of Sotra, just west of Bergen along Norway's rugged Atlantic coast — a stretch of landscape shaped more by fjords, skerries, and sea wind than by any traditional golf terrain. Kolltveit places the course in the southern half of the island, where the topography is characteristically western Norwegian: exposed rock, heather, coastal scrub, and views that open toward the outer archipelago. Weather here is genuine — Bergen's reputation as one of Europe's rainiest cities extends fully to Sotra, and the wind off the North Sea can make club selection a moving target on any given day.
Bergen is Norway's second city and the unofficial capital of its west coast, with a golf scene that reflects the short northern season — courses here pack their rounds into a window that runs roughly May through October, and the long midsummer evenings make late-round tee times genuinely magical.
Sotra Golfklubb serves the communities of Sotra and Øygarden, a growing residential belt connected to Bergen by bridge. Like many Norwegian club courses, it combines a friendly local membership culture with terrain that rewards shot-making and punishes anything too far offline.
