Le Robinie — named for the robinia trees (false acacias) that line many of its fairways — sits in the Olona valley northwest of Milan, in a corner of Lombardy where the industrial edge of Varese province softens into river-threaded countryside. The course opened in the 1990s and was designed by Jack Nicklaus, a credential that puts it in a select tier of Italian parkland layouts. Nicklaus's fingerprints are visible in the strategic bunkering, the generous landing areas that nonetheless demand a thoughtful angle, and a routing that makes full use of the valley's gentle contours and mature tree cover.
The robinia trees themselves shape the character of the place as much as any design element — their pale bark and feathery canopy give the course a distinctive look through spring and summer, and a round here feels unhurried and green in a way that belies how close the Milan metropolitan sprawl actually is.
For visiting golfers, Le Robinie functions as one of the more polished private-access clubs in the greater Milan orbit, attracting both local business memberships and traveling players who pair it with the city's other strong northern Italian parkland options.
