Webster City sits in Hamilton County, in the agricultural heartland of north-central Iowa, where the Des Moines River winds through a landscape of rolling prairie and hardwood timber. Briggs Woods Golf Course takes its name from the county park that surrounds it — a rare pocket of forested terrain in a region more commonly defined by open cropland. Playing here means moving through corridors of mature trees rather than across the exposed, wind-buffeted terrain that characterizes so many Iowa layouts.
The course carries the feel of a true community asset — a public facility maintained for local residents and visitors passing through on their way across the state. North-central Iowa isn't a golf destination in the way that the Sandhills region to the west or the Mississippi bluffs to the east might draw traveling players, but courses like this one form the backbone of the Midwest's everyday golf culture.
At par 72, the routing offers a full test across a comfortable range of distances. The wooded park setting provides natural definition, shade, and visual interest that most Iowa courses simply cannot replicate.
