Valley City Town & Country Club sits in one of North Dakota's more quietly scenic corners — the Sheyenne River Valley, which cuts an unexpectedly dramatic swath through the otherwise open plains of the state's eastern half. Valley City itself earned the nickname "City of Bridges" for the many crossings spanning that valley, and the surrounding terrain — rolling, wooded, carved by water — is a genuine departure from the flat agricultural landscape most visitors associate with the Dakotas.
A town-and-country club in a community of roughly 6,000 people typically anchors local golf life in a way that a purely private or resort course never does. These are the clubs where generations of families build their games, where summer twilight rounds stretch as long as the northern light allows, and where the membership knows every subtle break on every green by heart.
North Dakota's golf season is short and earnest, running roughly May through October, which tends to make regulars here appreciate every round. A full 18-hole, par-72 layout in a valley setting almost certainly means real elevation change and natural framing — two things the region doesn't always offer.
