The Quarry Golf Club

Few golf courses in America have a backstory quite like this one. The Quarry Golf Club occupies the site of a former cement quarry — a sprawling industrial scar that operated for much of the 20th century before being transformed, in the mid-1990s, into one of San Antonio's most distinctive rounds of golf. The Keith Foster design made the most of what the land offered: dramatic elevation changes, exposed rock faces, and the kind of rugged terrain that no architect could manufacture from scratch.

The front 9 plays across relatively conventional hill country ground, but the back 9 drops into the quarry itself, where sheer rock walls rise 80 feet above some fairways and serve as natural backdrops on several holes. It's a genuinely theatrical setting — one that earns its reputation through geology, not marketing.

San Antonio's golf scene leans heavily toward resort and daily-fee play, and The Quarry fits squarely in that tradition. The climate allows nearly year-round golf, and the course has drawn a loyal following from locals and visitors alike since opening in 1993.
